What is Kybella?

At Dermablue, we are Asheville’s premier center for KYBELLA®, double chin treatment.  Kybella treatment is a safe and effective skin injection for permanent reduction of double chin.   Kybella is an injectable treatment composed of deoxycholic acid that helps reduce moderate to severe pockets of fat below the chin—and it’s the first and only treatment of its kind to gain FDA-approval in the United States. Over the course of just a few treatments, Kybella effectively eliminates fat cells in the treated area and provides a more youthful, slimmer neck contour.

How does KYBELLA work?

The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.

When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA® skin injectable causes the destruction of fat cells.  Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

What should I expect from a Kybella treatment?

Treatment with Kybella® involves a few micro injections in the underneath the chin.  Up to six treatments may be required; although at Dermablue, we often see results after as little as two treatments.  Treatments should be administered at intervals of no less six weeks apart.  Topical numbing medicine will make the procedure more comfortable.  Because this treatment is not invasive, it can be done in the office and should take less than 30 minutes. The recovery time is short when compared to liposuction or surgery, although common post-treatment effects include swelling, bruising, mild discomfort, and possible temporary numbness in the treated region. These are all positive signs which tell us the treatment is working.  The treatment does not require maintenance, as destruction of fat cells is permanent. At Dermablue, we see visible changes within a few weeks of the first treatment.

What Results can I expect from Kybella?

In clinical trials, 79% of patients treated with Kybella reported significant improvement in facial contour!

Can Kybella be used in other areas?

Kybella is only FDA approved for treatment in the chin or submental fat area.  However, we use this occasionally off label to treat other small areas of stubborn fat.  For larger areas of unwanted fat and for those who prefer a treatment without needles we use Coolsculpting in our practice.  At Dermablue, we find that coolsculpting works very well to treat double chin and can use this in combination with kybella.

How much does Kybella cost?

Kybella treatments start at $2400*
