How It Works

As we age, the fat, muscles, bone, and skin in our face begins to thin. This loss of volume leads to either a sunken or sagging appearance of the face, fine lines, wrinkles, folds, and thin lips. 

Hyaluronic fillers combat the aging process by injecting hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occuring substance within the body, into the target area to be treated by the filler. In the skin hyaluronic acid attracts water, which allows the skin to become more hydrated. 

Injectable hyaluronic acid is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, facial folds, and to create structure, framework, and volume to the face and lips. The effects of injectable hyaluronic acid are seen immediately.

Because hyaluronic acid is naturally-occuring, your body recognizes them as collagen, meaning that there are no issues with rejecting the injection or other potential safety concerns. This is why hyaluronic fillers are considered the softest, most natural fillers available on the market. 

Topical or injected numbing medicine may be applied to give the patient additional comfort during the procedure.

Types of Hyaluronic Fillers

Each hyaluronic filler has unique characteristics that influence what location(s) on the face they are best injected, how deeply they need to be injected into the skin, and how long effects will last after injection.

JUVEDERM

Juvederm is a smooth gel injectable filler that is used to instantly add a moderate amount of volume around your mouth and nose; otherwise known as marionette lines or parentheses lines. With just one treatment, patients can achieve smooth, natural looking results.

At DermaBlue, we use Juvederm for nasolabial folds or parenthesis and lip lines. It comes in two different sizes to tailor the treatment specific to your needs. From smile lines to vertical lip lines, Juvederm injectable fillers can smooth away unwanted wrinkle and restore natural contours. Juvederm is also infused with lidocaine to improve comfort during treatment.

One treatment can last up to 1 year

In addition to Juvederm, at DermaBlue we use all of Allergan’s newest Hyaluronic Acid injectable fillers to provide the best possible treatment outcome.

• Voluma contains the thickest, strongest gel—ideal for deep injection into the cheek area to get a nice lift and volume boost.
• Volbella contains the thinnest, most spreadable gel—perfect to fill fine lip lines or even smooth the delicate area under the eyes.

JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC

JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC injectable filler was found to effectively increase lip fullness and soften the appearance of lines around the mouth in a majority of subjects through one year. Many people are very bothered by the lines that can appear around the lips, known as perioral rhytids or lines.

At DermaBlue, we use Volbella to add the most natural volume to the lips and it is our favorite filler used to smooth vertical lip lines. Volbella provides extremely natural and soft results. Volbella is infused with lidocaine to improve comfort during treatment.

One treatment can last up to one year.

VOLUMA

Voluma skin injectable is the first and only FDA approved cheek filler injected to correct age related volume loss. While most dermal injectable fillers are used to smooth and decrease specific facial lines, Voluma actually adds volume to the cheeks to contour the face. Voluma skin injectable is made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance within the skin that begins to decrease as we age. This process is the result of the loss of volume and sagging in the cheeks. Voluma is the skin injectable solution for giving you that subtle lift to restore facial contour and a more youthful profile.

At DermaBlue, we use Voluma for overall facial contouring and to add volume to the cheek and mid face. It is the most robust filler we use and can provide dramatic, long lasting results. Voluma is infused with lidocaine to improve comfort during treatment.

Treatment Time Frame

Outcomes and longevity for hyaluronic filler treatment vary from patient to patient and are influenced by a number of factors including the injection site, individual properties of the filler being used, age of the patient, and other characteristics of the patient’s skin. For example, while filler applied to the lips may last six months, filler applied in the nose may last a year or longer.
