What is Microneedling?

At Dermablue, we are Asheville’s premier provider of medical grade microneedling treatments.  MD Pen is an innovative microneedling treatment that rapidly creates a pattern of micro channels in the treatment area. These channels significantly increase the production of collagen and elastin leaving the skin smoother, fresher, and more uniform. The micro channels also enhance the skin’s ability to absorb medical grade topicals or PRP when applied during or immediately after treatment.  Medical grade microneedling is superior to home skin rollers or dermaroller treatments.

What conditions does Microneedling treat?

MD micro needling pen effectively treats the following:

• Microneedle Pen tightens and lifts skin
• Minimize acne scarring
• Reduction of fine lines
• Decrease of photo-aging, dull skin, and poor texture
• Reduction of stretch marks and body scars

How does Microneedling Work?

Prior to microneedle pen treatment a topical numbing cream will be applied. Once the microneedling treatment begins, the technician will glide the MD Pen across the skin. Micro needle pen treatment sensations can vary but is most often described as light sand paper moving across the skin. There is a possibility of some pinpoint bleeding during the treatment. The treatment generally takes anywhere from 30-45 minutes, depending on the treatment area. After your treatment you will leave on the PRP or Hyaluronic acid for 3 hours. Patients generally avoid activities post-procedure. Your skin may be sensitive and red, similar to a moderate sunburn, for 12-24 hours. It is important to stay well hydrated after treatments and carefully follow a skin regimen recommended by your technician.

What results can I expect from microneedling?

This procedure is relatively painless and requires no time off from your daily events. Best paired with the MD Pen for even greater results, the number of treatments depends on the skin ailment you are treating. Treatments are generally spaced 4 weeks apart and maintenance is done 2-4 times yearly.  At Dermablue, we consistently are amazed with the results on fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks and acne scarring. Overall, the majority of patients see significant results.

Microneedling Cost

MD Pen treatment alone is $300 per treatment; treatment combined with PRP is $500 per treatment.

At Dermablue, we combine the proven results of microneedling with PRP or platelet rich plasma.  This new cosmetic procedure is actually based on advanced medical technology involving the separation of your own platelets which is creating a safe and potent natural collagen growth factor serum to help regenerate your facial collagen naturally.  PRP stimulates the production of new skin cells that rapidly fills in lined, tired skin and gives people undergoing this procedure the appearance of having an invasive facelift. Microneedling helps deliver the PRP to the deep layers of skin where collagen forms.  The procedure was first popularized by Kim Kardashian, otherwise known as the Vampire Lift, or non-surgical facial rejuvenation.

What is PRP?

PRP Facial Rejuvenation can not only restore the natural shape of your face, but also improve the health of your skin. With the use of your blood’s platelets and growth factors, we are able to:

• Stimulate stem cell response
• Grow new collagen
• Regenerate tissue
• Smooth and tighten skin
• Improve skins tone and texture
• Minimize acne scarring

How Does the Selphyl PRP system Work?

At Dermablue, we collect around nine cc’s (two teaspoons) of blood from the patient wanting a PRP rejuvenation. This blood is put into a centrifuge for five to six minutes where the process of separating blood cells from fibrin and platelets is initiated. The platelet/fibrin solution can be stored for two hours if necessary without losing any of its effectiveness. Before this solution is injected or delivered via microneedling under a patient’s skin, it is poured into a tube that contains a polymerizing substance that induces a chain reaction resulting in the formation of free radicals, which are molecules responsible for promoting the formation of new skin cells.

PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma therapy that takes advantage of growth factors found in blood platelets. These growth factors encourage production of collagen as soon as it is injected into the skin. Popular as a facial rejuvenation technique in Europe and Japan since its approval in 2006, PRP is also an important part of medical procedures requiring dynamic tissue healing such as major joint surgery.

What results can I expect from PRP Rejuvenation?

When someone receives PRP delivered by microneedling, the serum immediately starts to promote collagen production and stem cell growth, which both encourage the creation of new skin cells at a faster than normal pace. Generally, patients experience visible evidence of significant improvent of skin texture and elasticity after two or three PRP treatments. Some swelling may occur that lasts a day or two, after which patients will see much less wrinkling, healthier skin tone and firmer skin.

How long does a PRP Rejuvenation treatment take?

The PRP rejuvenation treatment will not produce knots or lumps under the skin nor does the platelet jelly harden once it is introduced into the skin. No side effects have been reported and the entire procedure is usually completed within 30 to 45 minutes.
