May is National Melanoma Awareness Month! It goes without saying that this is a very important topic to us at Dermablue. With over 5 million cases diagnosed each year in the United States, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the nation. Fortunately, it is also the most PREVENTABLE form of cancer as well.
Here is a helpful way to keep an eye on suspicious areas at home, The ABC’s:
A. Stands for Asymmetry; one half is unlike the other half.
B. Stands for Border; irregular, scalloped or poorly defined border.
C. Stands for Color; varied from one area to another shades of tan and brown, black; sometimes white, red, or blue.
D. Stands for Diameter; While melanomas are usually greater than 6mm (the size of a pencil eraser) when diagnosed they can be smaller.
E. Stands for Evolving; a mole or skin lesion that looks different from the rest or is changing in size, shape or color.
Our goal at Dermablue is to help our community diagnose and treat past skin damage as well as help with behavior changes to prevent future skin health issues.

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends periodic self-examinations of the whole body and to receive regular physician skin checks. Skin cancer is highly treatable when detected early. It is important to regularly examine your skin to see if any spots or moles on the skin are changing, itching, or bleeding. We cannot stress enough that any changed noticed needs to be evaluated in our office. It’s better to know everything still looks healthy and normal than to overlook possible warning signs.
We’ve never had anyone regret their visit to Dermablue for a Full Skin Exam. If you’ve been considering an appointment with us but haven’t picked up the phone yet, this is the time to do so.
- New patients: If your schedule permits, make an appointment for one of the Free Skin Cancer Screening events mentioned above!
- Existing patients: keep on top of scheduling and keeping your regular full skin check appointments.
We look forward to helping you on your journey to healthy skin.
