What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is an option for skin tightening that uses focused Ultrasound to lift and tighten the skin. This is done without surgery or downtime. This treatment is FDA cleared to lift skin on the neck, under the chin and above the brow. Most recently it is also FDA cleared to improve fine lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.
How does it work?
By using focused Ultrasound, Ultherapy targets areas beneath the skin with the right temperatures to support collagen regeneration. In younger years our body was continuously producing collagen. Collagen is a structural protein that gives our skin elasticity and strength and works to replace dead skin cells. As we age collagen production slows to stops. This means we are replacing less dead skin cells and at a slower rate. As a result, our skin starts to look crepey, saggy and wrinkled. Eventually, this will lead to deeper facial lines and wrinkles and jowls of droopy skin. When using Ultherapy, the ultrasound delivers penetrating pulses to different depths of the treatment area. We bypass the top layers to reach the more foundational layers of the skin. With different treatment options, we can target muscle layers, skin layers, and superficial wrinkles to find full correction based on patient individual needs. This will result in firmer skin, less sagging and fewer wrinkles. By aggressively and effectively restimulating collagen proteins the body is tricked into going back into production mode resulting in tighter more youthful skin.
What to expect during treatment:
During treatment Ultrasound gel is used to effectively deliver the energy to the correct areas and depths of the treatment area. Visual ultrasound imaging is used during the whole treatment to see exact depths and details for best results. During treatment delivery you will feel tiny amounts of energy being deposited at precise depths to start the process of collagen regeneration. While comfort levels can vary, we make sure our patients are as comfortable and relaxed as possible. If needed we offer topical numbing and other options for comfort management. The sensations from Ultherapy pulses are temporarily felt and only last while the energy is actually being delivered. The length of your visit will depend on the area we are treating usually anywhere from 30 minutes- 90 minutes in most cases. After treatment, there is no downtime! There are no post-treatment restrictions and you can go back to normal activities effortlessly. The treated area may feel a bit flushed and/or tighter which will subside quickly
