Microneedling

Microneedling in Asheville, NC

At DermaBlue, we’re proud to offer medical grade microneedling treatments in Hendersonville and Asheville. Microneedling is a popular skin rejuvenation treatment that uses tiny needles to cause micro-injuries to the skin to create a pattern of microscopic channels in the treatment area. These channels trigger the skin’s healing process, significantly increasing the production of collagen and elastin leaving the skin smoother, fresher, and more uniform. The micro channels also enhance the skin’s ability to absorb medical grade topicals or PRP when applied during or immediately after treatment.  Medical grade microneedling is superior to home skin rollers or dermaroller treatments.

Microneedling Treatments Asheville & Hendersonville

What conditions does Microneedling treat?

Microneedling triggers the body’s healing process, allowing for the growth of new skin cells and significantly more collagen and elastin. The growth of this new skin effectively improves the following:

How Does Microneedling Work?

Prior to microneedle pen treatment a topical numbing cream will be applied. Once the microneedling treatment begins, the technician will glide the Collagen Pen across the skin. Micro needle pen treatment sensations can vary but is most often described as light sand paper moving across the skin. There is a possibility of some pinpoint bleeding during the treatment.

The treatment generally takes anywhere from 30-45 minutes, depending on the treatment area. After your treatment you will leave on the PRP or Hyaluronic acid for 3 hours. Patients generally avoid activities post-procedure. Your skin may be sensitive and red, similar to a moderate sunburn, for 12-24 hours. It is important to stay well hydrated after treatments and carefully follow a skin regimen recommended by your technician.

DermaBlue Microneedling Treatment Process

Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves creating tiny wounds on the skin’s surface using a device with small needles. This stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, resulting in smoother, firmer, and tighter skin.

Before receiving a microneedling treatment, you’ll need to have a consultation with one of our providers at our offices in Asheville or Hendersonville. This free 30-minute consultation will help us determine the scope of the treatment areas, and whether or not microneedling is the right choice for your skin concerns.

During the microneedling treatment, a numbing cream is typically applied to the skin to minimize discomfort. The microneedling device is then passed over the skin, creating tiny punctures that trigger the body’s healing response. The treatment typically takes around 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the treatment area.

After the microneedling procedure, the skin may be red and slightly swollen, and patients are advised to avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen. It’s typically recommended that patients undergo multiple sessions to achieve maximum results, spaced about 4-6 weeks apart.

While there is some “sandpaper-like” discomfort during the treatment, microneedling is a safe and effective treatment to help improve skin texture, reduce scars, and diminish fine lines and wrinkles.

What results can I expect from Microneedling?

The microneedling procedure is relatively painless and requires no time off from your daily events. The number of treatments depends on the skin ailment you are treating. Treatments are generally spaced 4 weeks apart and maintenance is done 2-4 times yearly.  At Dermablue, we consistently are amazed with the results on fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks and acne scarring. The vast majority of patients see significant results.

Microneedling FAQ

How long will microneedling results last?

Microneedling results can last from a few months to a year, depending on the individual’s age. Cell turnover is a big factor in how long results will last, as well a patient’s lifestyle choices like smoking, how much time is spent in the sun, and skin type. Most patients require annual touch-ups to continue the benefits from microneedling.

Is microneedling safe?

Microneedling is safe for most patients when done in a medical setting. As with any medical treatment, there is always a risk of infection without proper care after the microneedling treatment. Patients with bleeding or clotting disorders may not be qualified for microneedling, and you will need to have a free consultation with a DermaBlue provider at our Asheville or Hendersonville office before treatment to determine eligibility for microneedling.

Is microneedling better than botox?

While botox is an effective way to prevent wrinkles, it is a temporary solution that requires more maintenance treatments every 3-4 months. Microneedling stimulates the body’s natural collagen production and grows new cells, providing longer-lasting, more natural results that require less maintenance.
