We’re now able to offer surgical cosmetic treatments like neck lifts with the addition of Dr. Richard Levine, MD, FAAD, who has decades of experience and is one of the most sought after facial surgeons in the region.
A neck lift is a surgical procedure focused specifically on improving the appearance of the neck — from the jawline down to the collarbone. It addresses loose or hanging skin, prominent vertical neck bands, and unwanted fat beneath the chin that won’t respond to diet or exercise. Many patients also combine a neck lift with a facelift for more comprehensive rejuvenation of the lower face and neck together. Dr. Levine performs two main approaches, often in combination:
The anterior approach is performed through a small incision tucked under the chin. It allows Dr. Levine to tighten the platysmal muscles (the flat muscles responsible for neck banding), remove excess fat, and smooth the front surface of the neck. This is the most common approach for patients concerned about neck bands or a double chin.
The posterior approach uses incisions placed behind the ears to address loose or crepey skin along the sides and back of the neck. It’s often combined with the anterior approach to achieve a fully refined result that looks natural from every angle.
A neck lift delivers a cleaner, more sculpted neck profile. Patients typically see a reduction or elimination of neck bands, a smoother underside of the chin, and improved skin texture along the neck. Results are long-lasting — often 10 years or more — and can make a meaningful difference in how you feel about your appearance in photos and in the mirror.
We’ll send you home with thorough aftercare instructions, and our team is available throughout your recovery with any questions.
Rest at home and keep your head elevated. A compression garment is worn around the neck and chin to support healing and reduce swelling. If a small drain is placed, it’s typically removed within the first couple of days.
Bruising fades noticeably. Most patients feel comfortable returning to light daily activities.
Residual swelling and tightness continue to improve. Strenuous activity should be avoided during this window.
Final contour becomes visible as swelling fully resolves.

A facelift focuses on the mid and lower face — addressing jowls, sagging cheeks, and the jawline — while a neck lift targets the neck specifically, from the jaw down to the collarbone. The two procedures overlap at the jawline, which is why many patients choose to combine them for a seamless result. If your primary concern is the neck — loose skin, banding, or a double chin — a standalone neck lift may be all you need. If you’re also bothered by jowling or changes in the lower face, a combined approach is worth discussing.
It can, yes — especially when liposuction is incorporated. An anterior neck lift addresses the front of the neck through a small incision under the chin, allowing Dr. Levine to remove stubborn fat deposits and tighten the underlying muscles. For patients whose double chin is primarily fat-related, this is one of the most effective and lasting solutions available. During your consultation, Dr. Levine will evaluate whether the issue is excess fat, loose skin, muscle laxity, or a combination, and design the right plan accordingly.
Results from a neck lift are long-lasting — most patients enjoy their outcome for 10 years or more. That said, aging doesn’t stop after surgery. The neck will continue to change over time, but from a significantly better baseline. Maintaining a stable weight and protecting the skin from sun exposure are two of the best things you can do to support lasting results.
Those vertical cords running down the neck are caused by the platysma muscle — a flat, sheet-like muscle that can become more prominent with age and weight fluctuations. They’re sometimes called “platysmal bands” or a “turkey neck.” During an anterior neck lift, Dr. Levine tightens and sutures these muscles to reduce or eliminate the banding. It’s one of the most satisfying aspects of the procedure for patients who’ve been bothered by this for years.
For the right patient, absolutely. The neck is one of the most visible signs of aging, and it tends to be disproportionately noticeable — especially in photos. Many patients who felt self-conscious about wearing their hair up or going collarless report a real shift in confidence after a neck lift. Because results are long-lasting and the procedure is relatively focused, it offers an excellent return on investment compared to treatments that require repeated sessions. A consultation with Dr. Levine can help you determine whether it makes sense for where you are right now.
